NGC 1954

NGC 1954 is a barred spiral galaxy 155 million light years away in Lepus that has been very rarely imaged.
The Galaxy features considerable distortion in the arms due to interaction with NGC 1957. There is a clear bridge of stars between the two galaxies. The interaction has likely contributed to the numerous star forming regions throughout NGC 1954. NGC 1957 is classified at NED as a barred spiral galaxy although it appears more lenticular in the image, red shift calculations put the distance at 159 million light years.
Imaged in LRGB on our PlaneWave CDK 1000 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
