RCW 86
RCW 86

First seen as an apparent new bright star in 185 AD by Chinese observers the star at RCW 86 is likely the oldest recorded Supernova. RCW 86 located 8000 light years from here is the remnant of this type Ia supernova with the gases continuing to expand.
Imaged in HOO narrowband on our Planewave CDK 1000 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
