NGC 2992 the (larger galaxy) is an active nucleus spiral galaxy situated approximately 130 million light years away in the constellation of Hydra. It is interacting with the early spiral galaxy NGC 2993. A star bridge between the two galaxies is quite apparent.
NGC 2992 shows signs of elongation while NGC 2993 is brighter and may not have a nucleus.
The pair are listed as ARP 245 in the Peculiar Galaxy Catalog.
Imaged in LRGB on my Planewave CDK 1000 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
