NGC 2440 is a Planetary Nebula in the constellation of Puppis. Its central star HD 62166 is the hottest known white dwarf with a temperature of around 200,000 degrees centigrade.
The nebula is a challenge to image as it is very small in the field of view at just over 1’. It has a very bright core region and exhibits a very chaotic structure due to the high level of excitement from its very hot central star. There is a clear outer shell to the nebular structure.
Imaged in LRGB on my Planewave CDK 1000 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
