NGC 2076 is a Lenticular Galaxy seen edge on, 105 million light years away in the constellation of Lepus.
The galaxy is small in the field of view at just over 2×1’. It has very prominent dust lanes and a bubble like halo of gas and dust with a blue jet of stars emanating from the bottom end of the galaxy. The core region appears quite bright.
Studies have been done on the dust components of NGC 2076 and a number of other edge on Lenticular or Elliptical galaxies. The direction of the dust lanes has allowed modeling to infer the estimated shape of galaxies such as these.
