NGC 17

NGC 17
NGC 17

NGC 17 is situated in the constellation of Cetus 265 million light years from here, it is also cataloged as NGC 34 and is the result of a merger of two galaxies.

It is variously classified as spiral and lenticular. NED data base classifies it as a peculiar galaxy.

NGC 35 is a spiral galaxy that is approximately 260 million light years away, to the left is PGC 958866, followed diagonally down to the left by PGC 958282, PGC 957826 and PGC 957142.

Neither the NED or Hypermedia data bases have red shift information for these galaxies, so I was not able to determine approximate distance.

This field is rarely imaged as the galaxies are very small in the field of view. NGC 17 being 2×0.8’ and NGC 35 at 0.7 x 0.5’.

Imaged in LRGB on my Planewave CDK 1000 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
