NGC 1079 is a weakly barred intermediate spiral galaxy located 81 million light years away in the constellation of Fornax.

The galaxy has some unusual features, its H I content per unit of blue luminosity is three times higher than similar galaxies, its rotational velocity is approximately twice as large as normal galaxies with similar luminosities and it has low surface brightness spiral arms which are outside the high surface brightness center. It also has a faint halo/star stream which can be seen at the bottom left of the galaxy.

There is also a small circumnuclear star forming ring present.

Imaged in LRGB on my Planewave CDK 1000 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
