Located 2300 light years from here M 97 “The Owl Nebula” is a planetary nebula in Ursa Major. Somewhat faint and small it is nevertheless a popular subject in Astronomy and Astrophotography.
The planetary nebula has a classical circular planetary shape with a structure consisting of three concentric shells: a faint outer halo, a circular middle shell, and a roughly elliptical inner shell. The shells were expelled from its dying star beginning an estimated 6,000 years ago
