M8 is another of the better known nebulae of the southern sky. Situated 4000 light years away, the Lagoon Nebula is a giant interstellar cloud in the constellation Sagittarius. It is classified as an emission nebula and as an H II region. This very majestic nebula is actually barely visible to the naked eye under very good dark sky conditions.
