NGC 681 is an intermediate spiral galaxy located 117 million light years away (mean redshift independent distance) in the constellation of Cetus.
It is around the size of the Milky Way Galaxy and is small in the field of view at 2.5 x 1.8’.
The galaxy has a number of unusual features; there is a large glowing halo and a second set of more distant outer halos. There are also a number of dust regions apparent in the primary halo area.
