M 22 is also known as the Great Sagittarius Cluster.

It spans 100 light years and is situated around 9800 light years from Earth.

M22 is one of the brightest globular clusters in the night sky.

Of interest is that M22 is one of only 4 globulars known to contain a planetary nebula.

The cluster contains an estimated 10 million stars.
