NGC 5068 is a face on barred spiral galaxy approximately 22 million light years distant in the constellation of Virgo.
The galaxy is relatively low surface brightness rendering the appearance of the spiral arms somewhat diffuse. There are numerous bright active star forming regions as well as multiple H alpha regions. The bar is bright and very prominent with a number of dust lanes. There is a massive black hole in the central region of the galaxy.
NGC 5068 was the subject of a high resolution study by the James Webb and Hubble telescopes.
