NGC 1316 is a Giant Elliptical (lenticular) galaxy about 75 million light-years away in the constellation Fornax. It is a radio galaxy and at 1400 MHz is the fourth-brightest radio source in the sky.
Numerous loops, dust clouds and dust lanes are visible in the image.
It is likely that NGC 1316 is the result of a past merger with another galaxy or the result of a collision with its companion galaxy.
