M 88 is a non barred spiral galaxy 60 million light years away in Coma Berenices. It is a member of the Virgo cluster of galaxies
The galaxy is a seyfert type II with a very regular spiral arm structure and emits narrow line spectral emissions from the highly ionized gas in its core. The galaxy has an active nucleus and a large black hole.
