Abell 35 is classified as a Planetary Nebula and spans over 5 light years. It is one of the largest planetary nebulae has a very low surface brightness making imaging quite challenging.
Recent studies have shown that Abell 35 is likely a Stromgren Sphere in the ambient interstellar medium ionized by a white dwarf star. This produces a strong stellar wind which in turn creates a bow shock around the bright star (BD – 22º 3467) which presents strongly in the OIII narrowband data.
Imaged in HOO Narrowband with RGB star color on our RiDK 400 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
